Chemistry and Physics of the Molecular Solid State: Materials that Build Bridges between the Discrete and the Continuous, a Symposium celebrating 75+ birthday of Patrick Batail
On the occasion of the 75th birthday of Mr Patrick BATAIL, former DRCE CNRS, former director of IMN (Nantes) and MOLTECH-Anjou (Angers), a symposium is organized on November 16 and 17, 2023 at MOLTECH-Anjou where Patrick carried out the end of his career and his emeritus. This Symposium is entitled: " Chemistry and Physics of the Molecular Solid State: Materials that Build Bridges between the Discrete and the Continuous, a Symposium celebrating 75+ birthday of Patrick Batail ".
The aim is to bring together, around his former colleagues and doctoral students, about 20 renowned invited speakers (including 12 foreigners), i.e. about 80 people expected. This Symposium is open to all without registration fees. A paying banquet will be held on Thursday evening, November 16, 2023.
Patrick Batail
Former DRCE CNRS, former director of IMN (Nantes) and MOLTECH-Anjou (Angers), Patrick Batail began his career at CNRS in Rennes in 1977, before joining the Lab. de Physique des Solides in Orsay (1985-1994), then IMN in Nantes (1995-2001) where he was director in 1998-99.
Director of MOLTECH-Anjou for 10 years (2002- 2011), he became emeritus in 2013. Patrick Batail is also since 2015 Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Dpt. Chemistry of Columbia University in New York.
Patrick has always made very original contributions in molecular chemistry of condensed matter, in close interaction with physics, with a very strong effect of training young researchers. Thus, 15 of his former Ph.D. students have an academic career, including 9 at CNRS in Nantes (IMN), Rennes (ISCR), Bordeaux (CRPP), Versailles (ILV) and Strasbourg (CMC).
